Tai Chi Chuan

Tai Chi Chuan

Tai Chi Chuan is translated from the Chinese as "The Supreme Ultimate Fist." It is an ancient internal martial art. A recognised system for self-defence, consisting of slow, relaxed movements for total self-development.

For the body, it is a soft and gentle form of physical exercise. For the Mind, it is a study in relaxed concentration, discovering the ways of thoughts and visualisations. For both body and mind, Tai Chi Chuan can be seen as a tool, that with correct use and practice can bring these two halves to work closer together, supporting each other in movement and throughout change, thus establishing greater harmony between them, therefore within ourselves and our interactions.

Tai Chi has also been recognised in the east and west as being a useful preventative and curative practice as long practised in the Chinese healing system.

The words “Tai Chi Chuan” have also been translated as: “Great Polarity Boxing” which gives further meaning within the context of using Tai Chi Chuan as a means of self-defence. When for example in the classics it is written “ To use four ounces to deflect a thousand pounds”.
